Oscar doll eyes review

Recently I have purchased two pairs of Oscardoll Aqueous eyes, I had spent a long time wondering how they would actually look inside a doll so I ended up taking the plunge.

Both pairs of eyes are 16mm, The first pair I got had little goldfish embedded in them and the other pair is called Space in The Woods. They are both made from acrylic.

This was the first pair I bought I really like the fish in the left eye because it's a bit chunkier and despite what the picture would have you believe it's more noticeable than the one on the right. As you can see in this picture there is a bit of rouge putty they are quite difficult to put in but a nice thing about them is they have no dome. I know quite a few people like domed eyes but in nearly every doll I have owned high domes have left an unsightly gap.
These eyes are for a character of mine called Saya who I haven't got yet.

These are the space in the woods eyes I really love these eyes they are super pretty, again no dome so no gapping to worry about. I'm not sure who will end up with these eyes yet but Pandora is going to keep them for now.

Here's how I had to put them in the head, these eyes do take practice as you can see they are flat on the back which I think works with the effect of the eyes. My general advice for putting them in is to roll your eye putty into a thin sausage and place around the tops and bottoms of the eye in particular and be mindful of your bjd's eye shape. Try and  make sure your putty doesn't seep underneath the eye.

So here are the pros and cons

Pros

-Unique
-Good quality
-No dome great for dolls prone to gapping
-Come in a range of styles and colours
-They also come nicely packaged

Cons
-Hard to put in
-Hard to photograph
-Pricey (but in my opinion worth every penny)

I purchased both pairs of eyes second hand but you can buy Oscardoll eyes from dollpeddler, denverdoll and from the Oscardoll website. I can't confirm this but people have said if you want a specific sold out pair if you go to the Oscardoll website and request them they will make a pair for you.

BJD's a beginners guide

When I started out in the bjd hobby I knew what I could find off YouTube I knew of DoA which is a good hub of information, but had no one who could invite me.

So here are some things I have learned

1. Keep touching of the face to a minimum especially if the doll has a face up.
The oils from your hands can damage the face up so it is recommended if you have to handle the head for any reason you should wash your hands or wear gloves.

2. Don't buy a doll because of it's price! Buy a doll because you like it and see potential in the sculpt, I highly recommend looking at the doll blank and owners pictures where possible. Another mistake which is easy for newbies to make is to buy a doll because they like the face up or what they are wearing in the company photos, unless you are buying a fullset don't let these things influence your decision to buy the doll.

3. Research reputable dealers, if you don't want to end up with a knock off (a recast). bjdcollectasy is great for this, there are reputable eBay sellers but I would check first there are some great bjd groups on facebook if you want to check if the dealer is legit.

4. Don't rule out companies like resinsoul or bobobie because of what other people say. They are known as "cheap" companies but they offer pretty much any resin colour you want, and have excellent customer service. A doll is what you make it if you see potential and you like the sculpt then that is all that matters.

5. Don't rule out creating a hybrid, this can (but not always) save you money and if you like a dolls head sculpt but not the body most companies will let you purchase them seperatly this opens up your customization options even futher. But not all comapnies resins will match so be sure to do your research if having the resin match is really important to you you can always get body blushing done to help match the body and head. Also some people will yellow bit's of the doll purposefully to match it better.

6. Don't rule out modding. Modding can be a great way to customize a sculpt to your liking. Eye opening, eye closing, piercings, sanding eye wells are all common mods. If you are brave enough you can try these mods yourself or you can find a modder to do the job for you. Facebook pages, DoA and other bjd forums are great places to find modders.
(I will be talking more indepth about my expirences with modding in a future post)

7. Sometimes a doll may come unstrung or floppy if this is the case you will need to restring them there are many videos on YouTube on how to do this. If the doll becomes kicky you can wire and/or suede the doll this will help with poseablity.
(I will be making a more indepth post about wiring and sueading)

8. Not all clothes will fit your doll it helps to contact the seller with your dolls measurements before buying clothes for your bjd's.

9. Try your best to get yourself on DoA, you might have heard about the elitism on DoA but as long as you keep your head down you can pretty much avoid it and it has a tonne of useful information.

10. Finally the doll hobby can be a very opinionated hobby, like all hobbies you do get the entitled snobs who think their way is the only way. If you are happy with your doll that is all that matters.

See you in the next post! Remember if you have any questions just ask :)

Introduction to Danger's Dolls

What is Danger's Dolls?

Danger's Dolls is mostly a blog about ball jointed dolls but if I buy any other kind of doll I will cover it here.

Why did you start Danger's Dolls?

I wanted a place where I could review bjd related products such as eyes, clothes, accessorizes, services etc. I also wanted a place to share my dolls backstories and doll projects, I already keep a journal where I jot down ideas and about things I have bought etc and I thought some of that information would be useful to other people.

A bit about me

I am RaelDanger as a child I was never a doll person I actually was a lot more interested in bears. But I have always had a creative streak, I am now pursing a career as an illustrator and hopefully in a few years as a tattoo artist, I was drawn to bjds because of how they can be personalized and formed into a character. I was bought my first bjd as a Christmas present back in 2012. I stumbled across ball jointed dolls because of Rosen Maiden, as you can tell I am also a fan of anime/manga and I am also a big fan of game particularly pokemon.

If you have any questions about my dolls or bjds/other dolls I own in general don't hesitate to ask!
